Set to open in 2025, the new Mestia Airport terminal marks a major milestone for Georgia’s Svaneti region — one of the country’s most breathtaking and culturally rich destinations. Surrounded by the Caucasus Mountains, the new terminal combines modern architecture with local tradition, designed to offer a smoother and more welcoming travel experience for visitors and residents alike.
Chosen through a national design competition, the winning concept by Green Studio, led by architects Nino Grigolashvili and Teona Gogoladze of LSG Solutions, stood out for its symbolic and cultural depth. Inspired by Queen Tamar’s royal garments, the terminal’s design pays tribute to Georgia’s medieval heritage while embracing contemporary functionality and sustainable materials.
The single-story terminal features an open layout, merging arrival and departure areas for intuitive navigation. Large skylights, wooden structures, and stone details fill the space with natural light and warmth, creating a calm and airy atmosphere for travelers. Designed to handle up to 100 passengers per hour, the terminal will support the region’s growing tourism industry and improve connections to Georgia’s remote northwestern highlands.
More than just an infrastructure project, Mestia’s new terminal is a symbol of progress and pride — a blend of tradition and innovation, where Georgia’s cultural identity meets modern engineering. As construction begins, the project promises to transform Mestia into a more accessible and inviting destination, strengthening its role as the gateway to Svaneti’s mountains, towers, and timeless beauty.
