🛬 The competition for the design of the new terminal at Mestia Airport has concluded — the winner is Green Studio, which, among 18 contenders, presented the most outstanding architectural proposal for Mestia Airport’s new terminal.
✅ Mestia — and Svaneti in general — is one of Georgia’s key tourist destinations. The current terminal can no longer accommodate the growing flow of domestic and international travelers, nor the increasing number of flights. Consequently, the government has decided to construct a new airport terminal in Mestia.
✅ The expansion and infrastructural development of Mestia Airport represent a crucial part of the government’s priorities, which primarily aim to ensure affordable travel for Georgian citizens, including residents of Svaneti, and to enhance the region’s tourism potential. Alongside infrastructure development, the state continues to subsidize domestic flights to further support regional connectivity.
🛫 The new terminal will be a modern, single-story building with an open floor plan, functionally divided into departure and arrival zones. It is designed for maximum passenger capacity, and both halls will include dining areas, retail spaces, and other essential passenger services.
🛫 Construction will begin this year and is expected to be completed in 2025.
